Crooked Tree Cashew Fest

Crooked TreeThe Crooked Tree Cashew Fest is this year celebrating its 18th anniversary starting from Friday May 14th to Sunday May 16th.  The objective of the annual event is for villagers to promote their products and to bring friends and family together as well as to help raise funds to maintain the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary.

Friday will see the choosing of the Cashew Queen which will be followed immediately after with a dance livened by DJ Stone Vibes.

Some attractions this year will include: boxing matches, wet t-shirt contests, mechanical rides, greasy pole, platting the may pole and horse back riding. There will be food straight from the fire hearth to whet your appetite and one cannot forget the highlighting of all things Cashew.

All Saturday and Sunday activities will be amped up with live music from Coolie Rebels and DJ Stone Vibes.  There will also be an honorary guest appearance by the legendary Mr. Peters of the Boom and Shine Band.  Of course others who also wish to exercise their vocal chords can do so at the sure-to-be fun-filled karaoke contest.

KREM Radio will broadcast live highlights of the Cashew Fest on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

About KREM
The idea for the KREM Radio station originated in early 1979 while Rufus X and I were visiting New Orleans. There was a New Orleans deejay I liked, by the name of Sister Love, and one day Rufus and his cousin, Sam Wiley, who was our host, showed me the building where the radio station which featured Sister Love was located. It was quite a modest, one flat structure, much smaller than the three story Albert Cattouse Building from where the Belize government monopoly station – Radio Belize – was broadcasting.
